Ello!
It's been like forever, hasn't it?
Hahah! Well aniwaes, I would like to thank all the fellow bloggerittas who haven't failed, like I have, to update my blog, visiting and tagging me still, despite my persistence at being non-existent. Or rather living up to the mantra of some cookies advertisement ,"now u see her,now u dun."....for a long time....until now that is *TADAaaa!*
To the dismay of some, perhaps...haha I am but still kicking and very much alive. Infact, I have lived to the full blown age of, almost to a quarter of a century. Alhamdulillah. Heheh!
This year, definitely marked a series of melodramatic occurences in my life. To the people closest to me, this may sound far too familiar and by now u guys would have prayed that I am no longer brooding over it. Well well, for the info of all, I am so so Over it! Well, life's too short to be thinking about some"thing" almost as unworthy as that. What do I say, someone wise who perhaps went true an equally bad phase in his/her life came up with this,
"If it's good, it's wonderful,and if it's bad, it's experience." - my sentiments exactly!
05th Sept '04 - Inaugural "Quake" experience.
It was 1900hrs, at Am/Pm, a 7-11 inspired convenience store in Osaka Japan, when I first felt the tremor. Initially, I thought it was just the subway station underneath. But when the window sills began to rattle, we immediately knew that it wasn't just that kind of tremor I wished it was or wasn't anyway. But it lasted a mere minute, a mere minute to scare the living wits out of me and my friends ofcos...haha!
When we arrived at the hotel, ready to retire for the day after the much damage I have done to my pockets and purse (none on credit cards tho,no signing this time and boy am I so proud of myself!haha!),only to be greeted by hordes of guests already flooding the reception area. But the bad news has yet to be told..the elevator is tremor sensitive which simply means, the lift has failed to function after the tremor. Shakened but persistent to return to the comforts of our own rooms, cos the call time for our departure is pretty early the following day, we scaled the stairs of the 4 star Japanese hotel to the 11th floor. Recalled the days when I was in jc, that one year when I took part in vertical marathon, but boy have I realised, just how much, age has caught up with me..haha!
Then before the stroke of midnight, exactly at 2330hrs, I was rudely shocked and awaken from my sleep by a vigorous shake from my bed...Gosh, it doesnt help that the hotel in Osaka has a reputation of being haunted, and for a brief moment I was contemplating if that was and earthly encounter or was it of the supernatural sorts... But reality got the better of me as I slowly but staggeringly woke up from my daze, trying to ignore the sound effects made from the clattering hangers in the closets and the toilet door which keeps opening and closing on its own.Wah Seh!..Just like in the movies u noe..but at that point in time...I have to admit that I was afraid...so damn afraid..haha!I didnt know if I should just stand at the door frame...or hide underneath the table...
SURVIVING AN EARTHQUAKE POINT NUMBER 1
* stay underneath a solid frame.
Lucky thing I watched enough movies..or heard enough stories to actually know that point. Well a typical Singaporean like us would'nt have been equipped with such knowledge considering the fact that we r only prepared for bomb attacks...wic explains the bomb shelters???...(CHOY!)
Well being in that state, I can't help but be dependent on that one thing that could connect me to any company of any sorts, voices, people, instructions, watever!.So I called (Thank U Mr Late Agraham Bell!) the operator to ask if there was a need for evacuation and I was told to wait for further notice. And so I did.Changed into my jeans and t-shirt and got on the hook again to stir some panic and disturbance onto my beloved Mum's life haha!...well that could have been my last call home OKAY...but I told her not to worry cos I've changed into my evacuating gear and am so ready to evacuate...What? Did u think that I was going to run out in my PJs...NEVER!!!hahah
So much for being ready and staying tuned on the news channel which blared the evac process of the inhabitants along the coastal areas as the anticipation for the Tsunami waves rose...
I fell asleep....hahhaha....yes in my jeans and t-shirt!
We safely departed from Osaka the next day, albeit the occassional turbulence which impeded on our otherwise could have been the most impeccable inflight service onboard...the service even other airlines are talking about...hahah...now more than ever, a great way to fly.
No no..I didn't get paid for saying this, I'm just being thankful that we are getting our pay restored..hahah! :)
Oh yes just for the info of those who's keen, the second tremor lasted for about 5 mins, and measured 7 on the riechter scale. The longest 5 minutes of my life.
Life is precious, dun u think? :)
